Here we follow the picture that, when the disk is sufficiently cold, the stirring due to Jeans-related instabilities acts as a source of effective heating. The corresponding reformulation of the energy equations allows us to: (i) demonstrate how self-regulation can be established, so that the stability parameter Q is maintained close to a threshold value, with weak dependence on radius; (ii) rediscuss the opacity properties in the self-gravitating regime. In particular, we show that, if cooling is dominated by bremsstrahlung, an optically thin stationary accretion solution is thermally stable, even in the non-advective case, provided the disk is self-gravitating. The details of the cooling function have little effect on the structure of such accretion disk, which is in any case brought by self-gravity to self-regulate. This condition of self-gravitating accretion is expected to be appropriate for the outer regions of many disks of astrophysical interest. With the reformulation of the energy equations described in this paper we have also secured: (iii) a starting point for the study of the emission properties of self-gravitating accretion disks; (iv) a tool to analyze the structure of the transition region, where the disk becomes self-gravitating.

Thermal Equilibria of Accretion Disks
We show that most of hot, optically thin accretion disk models which ignore advective cooling are not self-consistent. We have found new types of optically thin disk solutions where cooling is dominated by radial advection of heat. These new solutions are thermally and viscously stable. متن کاملLocal stability criterion for self-gravitating disks in modified gravity
We study local stability of self-gravitating fluid and stellar disk in the context of modified gravity theories which predict a Yukawa-like term in the gravitational potential of a point mass. We investigate the effect of such a Yukawa-like term on the dynamics of self-gravitating disks. More specifically, we investigate the consequences of the presence of this term for the local stability of t...
متن کاملThe Local Stability of Accretion Disks with Advection
Based on the disscusion of the applicability of local approximation, the local stability of accretion disks with advection is studied together with the considerations of radial viscous force and thermal diffusion. For a geometrically thin, radiative cooling dominated disk, the thermal diffusion has nearly no effects on the thermal and viscous modes, which are both stable if the disk is also opt...
متن کاملThe Role of Thermal Conduction in Accretion Disks with Outflows
In this work we solve the set of hydrodynamical equations for accretion disks in the spherical coordinates (r,θ,ϕ) to obtain the explicit structure along θ direction. We study a two-dimensional advective accretion disc in the presence of thermal conduction. We find self-similar solutions for an axisymmetric, rotating, steady, viscous-resistive disk. We show that the global structure of an advec...
متن کاملGeneralized Thermal Instability Criterion of Black Hole Accretion Disks
The conventional thermal instability criterion can not be applied to the advectiondominated accretion disks around black holes where the radiative cooling is insufficient to balance the viscous heating. The surface density change associated with the temperature perturbations, which was usually neglected in deriving the conventional criterion, was recently shown to be much significant in the adv...
